Within Find Learning you can:

  • Browse or search a calendar of learning opportunities within Wyndham by clicking on the When & Where text. This section allows you to narrow your search down according to several things including; your learning interests, a favourite provider, or the time of day you would prefer to attend sessions/events. To start the ball rolling with booking into a learning opportunity, you will need to register (see the My WynLearn section below).
  • Find details for Learning Providers in your area by clicking on the Who text and then clicking on a suburb of Wyndham.

Once you've seen what's being offered locally, you might like to get involved in the community of learning within Wyndham by using the Engage in Learning tools. There are a couple of different sections in here:

  • By clicking on the Connect text, you can get a picture of the discussion about learning that's happening within Wyndham currently. After registering with the site (see the My WynLearn box below) you will be able to post your own topics to the forum and start shaping learning in your community.
  • Clicking on the Explore text gives you access to articles that have been published on the site, as well as news feeds about adult and community education within Australia and links to other relevant organisations locally.

The My WynLearn box is the place to register as a user of the site and start customising WynLearn according to your learning interests. This simply involves clicking on the Register text and filling in a brief form. You will then be sent a password via email which enables you to log in. Logging into WynLearn entitles you to:

  • Begin the process of booking into learning events.
  • Organise to be notified of new opportunities in your interest area by using the alerts tool.
  • Participate in the discussion forums (within the Engage in Learning box) and start dialogue with other local learners.

Shane's Seminars Point Cook and Daylesford

Shane Tindal of Shane’s Seminars Point Cook and Daylesford will be offering a series of eight seminars at the Point Cook Community Learning Centre at 1-21 Cheetham St. in March, April, May and June 2010.

There will be two seminars of two hours duration from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday 16 March and Tuesday 23 March on Contemporary Australian Writing. The first seminar begins with an introduction to Australian writing looking at the work of multicultural writers as well as poetry, essays, short stories and the controversial book by Helen Demidenko. The second seminar focuses on the writings of Helen Garner as well as four male writers Peter Carey, Elliot Perlman, Luke Davies and Nick Earls. The cost of each seminar is $10 and material will be supplied a week before 16 March 2010.

There will be two seminars of two hours duration, from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday 13 April and Tuesday 20 April on African Literature. The first seminar begins with an examination of historical aspects that influence the emergence of African Writers such as Chinua Achebe, Ayi Kwei Armah, Wole Soyinka and Bessie Head and focuses on a number of novels by Ngugi was Thiongo. The second seminar focuses on the works of Mariama Ba, Buchi Emecheta and Chimanda Ngozi Adichie as well as writings by women of African descent. The cost of each seminar is $10 and material will be supplied a week before 13 April 2010.

There will be two seminars of two hours duration, from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday 4 May and Tuesday 11 May on Renaissance Art. The first seminar is an overview of the history of the period looking at patrons such as Cosimo de Medici and Pope Julius II, as well as artists such as Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The second seminar concentrates on the role of Women in the Renaissance as subject, artist and patron. The cost of each seminar is $10 and material will be supplied a week before 4 May 2010.

There will be two seminars of two hours duration, from 7 to 9pm on Tuesday 1 June and Tuesday 8 on Peter Singer’s Philosophy. The first seminar concentrates on Peter Singer’s life and career, animal liberation, zoophilia and vegetarianism. The second seminar examines Singer’s approach to applied ethics including the topics of abortion, euthanasia and infanticide. Other areas of discussion will include the ethics of globalisation, ethics in an age of self-interest and the ethics of George W. Bush. The cost of each seminar is $10 and material will be supplied a week before 1 June 2010.
